Design and Technology (D&T)

At Kingsway Primary School, Design and Technology (D&T) is an inspiring and practical subject that encourages children to be creative, curious, and confident problem solvers. D&T is taught across all year groups, from Foundation Stage through to Year Six, and helps prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom.

D&T draws on STEM subjects—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—while also linking closely with Art and Computing. It is often taught through a topic-based, cross-curricular approach, allowing children to apply their learning in meaningful, real-life contexts. Through D&T, pupils are given opportunities to design, make, and evaluate products that solve real and relevant problems.

In D&T lessons, children learn to research ideas, design and plan their products, make them using a range of tools and materials, and evaluate their work. They are encouraged to think carefully about what works well and how their designs could be improved. This process helps children develop resilience and perseverance, reflecting our Kingsway KIT values, as well as important skills such as teamwork, independence, and problem-solving.
