Music
At Kingsway Primary School, our music curriculum follows the Charanga Creative Music scheme, ensuring full alignment with the National Curriculum and providing a progressive, inclusive and high-quality music education for all pupils.
In Key Stage 1, children develop a love of music through singing, listening, performing and simple composition, learning to keep a steady pulse, recognise basic musical elements and respond to a range of musical styles.
In Key Stage 2, pupils build on these foundations by developing greater control, accuracy and confidence in singing and performing, using musical notation, composing and improvising, and understanding how music is created, produced and communicated.
Across all key stages, pupils explore music from different genres, cultures and historical periods, developing musical vocabulary, creativity and cultural awareness. Through Charanga’s carefully sequenced approach, children develop transferable skills such as teamwork, self-expression and confidence, fostering a lifelong appreciation of music.
